Stay On Top of These September Trends
September is the month that marks the beginning of the wonderful fall season, making a beautiful transition from the green and yellow tones of summer to the cozy and earthy hues of autumn. After the back-to-school season, we’re all set to welcome the 9th month and start focusing on how to prepare for your September campaigns and collections.
If you’re still working on getting this sorted, check out the September trends, major events, holidays, and the Placeit designs that are being prepared to arrive just in time for this month.
#1: Get Your Fall Aesthetic Down
The biggest change coming in September is the new season: FALL! The first day of fall is on September 23 in the Northern Hemisphere.
This season is all about being cozy, enjoying the foliage, and football. There are plenty of major holidays coming in later months, but for now, just focus on fall.
Start by exploring color palettes and popular seasonal designs and put these into mood boards to guide your aesthetic. Keep your target audience in mind when creating your mood boards, so you have a clear idea of what fall aesthetics appeal to them.
Define Your Fall Colors
While bright colors and sunshine may define summer, autumn colors are almost the opposite. We tend to get less sunlight during this season, so darker and richer tones are often what dominate.
Some classic fall colors brands use during the season include orange, red, yellow, brown, and green. Think of outdoor landscapes, the changing colors of the leaves, and seasonal fruits and vegetables to get on the right track. Check out some examples below:

Fall Designs and Motifs for Every Audience
When it comes to designing anything for fall, stick to what makes sense for your audience. This includes the designs themselves and the items you will put them on.
For example, if you sell apparel, it makes sense to offer standard t-shirts, hoodies, and sweatshirts for the chillier weather. And, if you sell children’s clothing, illustrated or cartoon-style designs might make more sense, while more classic prints will be more apt for an older audience.
With that in mind, let’s talk about popular fall designs. Look to your surroundings for inspiration once more, and think about upcoming holidays when creating your designs. For general fall designs, some of the most popular design elements include leaves/foliage, acorns, apples, pumpkins, sweaters, football, pie, and hot chocolate/warm drinks.
You can worry about upcoming holidays later on and create specific holiday collections for them outside of your fall designs.
Give Off Cozy Vibes With Fall Templates
While thinking about your designs, it helps to know what items these will go on.
If you have been doing this for a while, then you may have a clear idea of the items your audience looks forward to during this time of the year. If this isn’t the case, stick to items that make sense for the season.
As we mentioned earlier, if you own an apparel shop, you can stick to basic items, like t-shirts, hats, and tote bags, but this is also a great time to introduce seasonal items to your shop. Think about what items make sense as the weather gets cooler. Some items you might want to consider include hoodies, sweatshirts, beanies, long sleeve t-shirts, coffee mugs, and travel mugs.
Promote Your Designs on Social Media
The eCommerce world can get competitive, so it helps to have a social media strategy in place to promote your fall items.
If you don’t already have social media profiles for your brand, now is the time to get on this! You can use these profiles to promote your new launches, a sale, seasonal promotions, or even to hold contests and giveaways! Create social media posts, stories, and even ads that include a fall motif and that feature your newest items or a sale code.
You can create everything you need for your social media profiles in no time with Placeit’s fall-themed social media templates. They’re easy to customize with your own copy and images and are ready to share in seconds!
#2: Football Season Is Here
If you’re a football fan, then you’re likely already gearing up for a big season! While preseason is already underway, the season doesn’t officially start until September 7. This means you’re still in time to create everything your audience needs to participate in a fun and competitive season. There isn’t a ton of time left before kickoff, so don’t put this off any longer!
Create Gear for the Dedicated Football Fans
Football fans are a dedicated bunch with a lot of team spirit. Celebrate this devotion to their favorite teams and players by offering your audience fan gear they’ll be excited to wear on game day.
Stick to using popular team colors in your football t-shirt designs along with traditional football motifs, like an actual football, yard-line markers, and players dressed up in uniform. You can come up with your own quote or use some that are popular with a specific team.
Get the Crowd Excited for Game Day
Hosting a game day party at your house or having a sale on your football merch? Make sure everyone knows about it!
Promote everything from your game day event to a new collection your audience will love with scroll-stopping social media posts! You can create Instagram posts, Instagram Stories, and even videos with a football theme to get the word out about everything you have going on this football season.
Have Fun With Fantasy Football
If you’re more excited about the chance to beat your friends at fantasy football this year, then don’t forget to create an awesome fantasy football logo for your league! You can create a custom football logo in any style that suits you and your league, whether you want to make it funny or serious.
#3: Prepare for the Biggest September Holidays
National Video Games Day
This September holiday is for all the video game lovers out there. We all know at least one, so why not make this day a special one for them?
Make all video game lovers feel the love with cute merch featuring gaming designs and quotes that will make them laugh and feel included. Think cool gamer shirts and hoodies, customized desk accessories for PC gamers, like mousepads and desk pads, hats, and anything else you can think of!
Hispanic Heritage Month
September 15th – October 15th
This month-long celebration is observed in the United States every year and focuses on highlighting the history, contributions, and culture of those whose ancestors came from Latin America and Spain.
Before jumping in on the celebration, be sure you or your brand are active supporters of the community throughout the year and not just using this holiday for monetary gain. It’s also a good idea to ensure this holiday resonates with your audience and doesn’t come out of left field for them.
There are a number of ways you can participate in this celebration. For starters, you can make merch that highlights the beauty of this community, important figures, and the rich history. Think t-shirt designs, hoodies, mugs, and more. Consider donating some of the profit from these sales to organizations that empower the Hispanic community this month.
It’s also a great idea to create social media content to spread awareness and highlight the importance of Hispanic Heritage Month. Spotlight your favorite figures in the community and their contributions to the niche that you fall into.
September 16th – October 3rd
This two-week-long celebration in Munich, Germany, draws crowds from all around the world looking to join in the festivities. And, although most people tend to focus on the beer, there’s more to this historic celebration. In fact, German culture is on full display during Oktoberfest, with traditional food being served while people dressed up in traditional clothing enjoy music, dancing, and games.
This celebration isn’t limited to Munich. Other cities across the world hold their own smaller versions of Oktoberfest during the same period. It’s essential that you prepare for this big celebration ahead of time and have things ready for your audience well before the big day.
If you’re hosting an Oktoberfest event, create flyers to promote it online and around your town.
You can also use social media to promote your event or your merch. Just remember to start posting early so that your audience has time to purchase and receive their items for the big day.
#4: Social Media Trends That Will Gain Greater Relevance in September
Twitter, Now Known as ‘X,’ Announces New Monetization Opportunities
Since Elon Musk acquired Twitter in 2022, significant changes have been on the horizon for the globally recognized blue platform. In August 2023, it transformed, rebranding with a new name, logo, and image, becoming “X”. However, this transformation goes beyond the visual, as “X” now offers monetization opportunities for content creators who are part of the Premium version of the social network, now Blue Subscription, formerly known as Twitter Blue, through the “Ads Revenue Sharing” initiative.
This initiative allows creators to earn a portion of the advertising revenue generated by responses to their tweets containing ads. Although it was implemented in late July 2023, we anticipate clearer guidelines for September. Meanwhile, the system welcomes users with a minimum of 500 followers, accumulating at least 5 million impressions in the last three months. Not to mention creators must have a Blue subscription and a verified account.
If this might not be very accessible for all creators, there’s another way to generate income. Through the Amplify Pre-Roll program, creators can integrate ads into their videos and earn revenue, similar to YouTube. This way, each creator can choose which videos to monetize, earning monthly income from their content through this initiative.
Instagram Carousels Now Have Music On
Inspired by this TikTok photo carousel feature, Instagram has boldly incorporated music into its own photo carousels, aiming to deliver a more dynamic and enjoyable experience for users.
This Instagram feature allows personal and professional accounts to add a good music track to their pictures that authentically resonates with the moment they’ve captured. With the capacity to integrate up to 90 seconds of music from a wide variety of artists and bands, users now have the freedom to select the perfect segment of a song that complements their images.
A New Way for Creators to Interact With Their Audience
Instagram has introduced another recent feature, allowing users to engage more closely with their favorite creators and artists through Reels.
While the exact process might not be entirely clear at the moment, the concept revolves around the “Add yours” sticker on Reels. This innovative approach allows creators to establish a deeper connection with their audience using Reels. Consequently, creators and followers can collaboratively craft entertaining Reels, enhancing the interactive and fun experience on the platform.

#4: Social Media Trends That Are About to Come in October
Is Instagram Becoming More Musical?
Hey there, music fans! Big news is on the way for the next few weeks (hopefully by October). Instagram just shared in their official newsroom that they’re expanding their music library to more countries.
But wait, there’s more! Instagram is teaming up with Spotify in Mexico and Brazil. They’re putting together a playlist of 50 super popular songs from Instagram Reels and creating a new Reels Music Chart on Spotify. How awesome is that? Now, you will be able to hop onto the green platform and listen to the hottest and preferred tunes by the Reels community.
Expect New Twitch Features for This October!
At TwitchCon in Paris, Twitch announced we can expect Twitch Stories in October 2023, which will allow gamers to stay in touch with their followers and subscribers (could be limited to only these). This new function will be available on the Twitch app and work like Instagram stories, including texts, polls, pictures, and clips.
Additionally, as stated on the official site, the Discovery Feed is scheduled for a launch later this fall. However, the specific month has yet to be disclosed. Currently, various experiments are underway to refine the algorithm and enhance the overall user experience. This new Discovery Feed will also be accessible through the app and will be scrollable to show users a personalized mix of clips from different streamers. The purple platform stated, however, that the feed wouldn’t be infinite since it doesn’t want viewers to stay on this content for too long but rather provide them with the opportunity to discover more Twitch channels.

November Trends: Get Ready for a Festive Month
November is basically synonymous with Thanksgiving, but there’s much more going on this month. Don’t miss any opportunities for a sale, a marketing campaign, or a niche holiday celebration that resonates with your audience. Use this November trends section to keep you on top of what’s coming this month!
#1: Popular November Designs and Motifs
Thanksgiving reigns supreme in November, so it tends to influence everything around it. Apparel, home decor, color palettes, and popular designs often include turkeys, pilgrims, and other Thanksgiving-influenced symbols. Check out this design inspo to get your November designs and products ready to go!
Popular November Color Palettes
Things are getting even chillier in November, so most people opt for warmer shades that feel more welcoming and cozy. Popular shades in November are also inspired by fall, especially since it’s now at its fullest. Think fall foliage, Thanksgiving dinner, and cozy drinks in a warm cafe.
Use these November-inspired color palettes for everything from apparel designs to social media posts this month!
Apparel Trends for November
Cold weather means it’s time to start layering! Shoppers will be looking for long sleeves and warm linings, which means long-sleeve tees, hoodies, sweaters, coats, and raincoats will all be in demand. On top of this, warm and fuzzy socks, beanies, scarves, and even gloves will all be making a comeback soon.
People will be excited to get outside and will finally be able to spend the Thanksgiving holiday with extended family. Give them some great apparel they can wear around the dinner table surrounded by family and friends.
When thinking about design, keep the upcoming holidays in mind. Festive designs for Thanksgiving will be popular. These might feature elements like turkeys, pilgrims, pie, and other things related to Thanksgiving dinner and family.
It’s also not too early to start pushing Christmas-related designs. People will be needing their ugly Christmas sweaters soon, so give them some Christmas options leading up to the holiday.
Home Decor for the Holidays
This is the first time in years that families will finally get together for a big holiday season. Because of this, shoppers may go all out this year when it comes to making their homes welcoming and cozy.
Offer some inviting home decor that will transform a home into a cozy escape from the fall chill. Throw blankets, candles, cushions, rugs, festive napkins, and place settings will be popular for around the home, especially for a dinner party. But don’t forget also to offer decor to transform a home, like pumpkins, wreaths, and seasonal flower arrangements.
If you’ve been out shopping, then you know that Christmas decor is already flying off the shelves. It may still be fall, but it’s definitely time to get your Christmas decorations out and in front of shoppers.
#2: Get Ready for Major Sales
Everyone knows that once Thanksgiving is over, it’s all about the sales! Black Friday and Cyber Monday are highly anticipated every year, so get ready to offer your customers some can’t-miss sales and promotions.
Prepare Your Black Friday Promotions
Not long after Thanksgiving dinner is over, shoppers will already be filling their online shopping carts with all sorts of items.
In general, this is when shoppers are looking for steals on big-ticket items, especially televisions, laptops, and other tech. In recent years, shoppers have been more likely to shop online on Black Friday, forgoing the crowded stores and physical fights over limited quantity items.
🛒 Get your shop ready for major traffic and use this Black Friday guide for POD sellers to make the most of this shopping day.
Offer Major Cyber Monday Sales
The Monday after Black Friday is an even bigger shopping day. Shoppers expect to see significant discounts on big-ticket items as a part of Cyber Monday but are also looking for deals that will help them save some money on their holiday shopping.
Christmas is just around the corner, so sales on toys, makeup, apparel, and home goods are just as popular as discounts on electronics.
You don’t have to have a different sale for both days, so don’t stress out about this. Many retailers hold a week-long sale, while others offer flash sales on specific items during this weekend.
In recent years, brands have taken a drastically different approach to Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Rather than having a sale, some brands have taken to advertising the fact that they aren’t having a sale in an effort to curb overconsumption.
If your brand prides itself on its eco-friendly beliefs, then this is a great way to stick to your brand’s values and show your commitment to helping the planet.

#3: Celebrate These November Holidays
No Shave November
Chances are you’ve heard of No-Shave November and even have some friends who grow out a funny mustache every November, but what is this really about?
In basic terms, No-Shave November is an initiative and an organization with the aim of raising cancer awareness. The idea is that since many cancer patients lose their hair, they want to encourage people to let their hair grow wild and free all month long. The mustache, body hair, full beard, and longer hair may raise questions that lead to conversations about cancer.
Participants are encouraged to donate the money they would usually spend on grooming to cancer research instead. On top of this, you can also create your own personal fundraising page or campaign, with the proceeds going to cancer research.
National Native American Heritage Month (US)
National Native American Heritage Month Designs
This celebration is also widely known as American Indian and Alaska Native Heritage Month and is meant to be a celebration of the cultures, traditions, history, and contributions of the Native people.
This is a great time to not only celebrate Native people and acknowledge their contributions but also to educate the public about the history of the Native people, their tribes, and their current challenges.
World Vegan Day
World Vegan Day is celebrated every year on November 1. It focuses on not only celebrating those who consume an all-green diet but is also used to encourage meat-eaters to adopt a vegan diet.
Health benefits, animal cruelty, and environmental benefits are often highlighted as some of the main reasons to adopt this diet. No matter what your reason is for being vegan, there is plenty to celebrate on this day!
Day of the Dead / Día de Muertos
Día de Muertos is a Mexican holiday that is celebrated at the beginning of November. During this celebration, families get together to remember family and friends who have passed on.
The celebration is a joyous one as and is meant to celebrate the lives of those who are now deceased. It is also believed that the souls of those who have passed away come back on this day to visit family and friends.
Celebrations often feature decorative altars, candles, flowers, and Day of the Dead designs, like sugar skulls and crosses.
Veteran’s Day (US)
Veteran’s Day is celebrated every year and is a day to honor and pay respect to all of those who have served in the Armed Forces of the United States.
Show your love and support to all veterans on this day through acts of service, visit a VA hospital, and reach out to the veterans in your life.
Transgender Day of Remembrance
Transgender Day Of Remembrance Designs
Transgender Day of Remembrance is observed every year and is a day to commemorate and remember all the transgender people we have lost to violence.
The fight for equality continues to be an important one for the transgender community, so this is an important day to remember those we’ve lost but also to continue the fight.
Participate by holding a vigil, visiting a vigil hosted by a local LGBTQ+ org, and learning about the transgender community.
Thanksgiving is celebrated on the last Thursday of November every year in the United States. It’s a day to spend with family and friends, eating a delicious meal, and sharing what you are thankful for.
Thanksgiving designs take over everything from home decor to apparel and even food. Get your customers in the spirit with designs that include turkeys, pumpkins, pies, pilgrims, and everything Thanksgiving.
#4: Social Media Trends to Try Out and Expect
Social Shopping for the Holidays
Most brands already know how important it is to be active on social media. During the holidays, this is crucial. Since the last months of the year are when shoppers are out in full force, being present on social media and having your products talked about can really make a difference in your sales this season.
Younger shoppers are super active on social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok, and they love getting gift-giving inspo, or even just shopping inspo, on these platforms. In fact, popular hashtags like #TikTokMadeMeBuyIt show just how many people have been influenced to buy products thanks to a quick video.
To gain this sort of influence, be sure your brand is present and active on the social media platforms where your audience hangs out. Create content that engages them and that they interact with. Use popular hashtags to be seen, including the one we mentioned above. And why not dabble in influencer marketing?
Give your viewers tons of gift-giving ideas for every person on their list. Make it easier than ever for them to make their purchase. Plenty of social media platforms offer ways to list your products directly on your profile and even allow users to check out without leaving the platform.
The easier you make your checkout, the more likely users are to complete their purchases. Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, and TikTok all offer shopping options, making it easier for your followers to get what they want from you.
It’s also worth looking into popular strategies like hosting a shopping Livestream. In fact, 57% of customers said they have bought something while watching a livestream on a social media platform. Experiment with different approaches to find what works for your brand.
A New Digital Bazaar With AI?
Pinterest is working to become a sort of “digital bazaar” through the integration of artificial intelligence. This allows users to see the red platform as a source of inspiration, but also, it’s intended to be a place where people can make purchases without exiting the app. Additionally, the Pinterest CEO, Bill Ready, wants Pinterest not to be addictive but additive to people’s lives. So we can expect to see more AI and shopping features in the next months.
